2016 Club Address

The 2016 season is upon us.  I think we are set up to have a big year this year, and reach our goal of winning a Division 1 National Championship.

Metro Schedule and Practices

We will be having Metro games every Saturday during the season when we don’t have a USAFL game schedule.  The Metro Games will be 10 am at Crowley Park (2400 Lookout Dr. Richardson, TX 75044).  After the first couple Saturdays we will pick captains and have a 3 team draft (Power, Roos, Magpies).  We will track stats and scores for the entire year and determine a winner at the end of the season.

Practices during the year will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 630pm.

-Tuesdays – 630pm at Hamilton Park (12020 Willowdell Dr. Dallas, TX 75243)

Thursdays – 630pm at Griggs Park (2209 Clark St.  Dallas, TX 75204

Texas Cup Round 1 Wrap Up
Round 1 of the Texas Cup has come and gone with mixed results for the Dallas Magpies.

Dallas Magpies V Austin Crows

The first game against Austin was a hotly contested match. The first half was full pressure football, played at an intense pace. Both sides struggled to find space in a relatively even contest. The Magpies applied constant pressure, not allowing Austin to play their normal free flowing game. Cory Colvin was Dallas’s best in the first half, using his speed to run rings around his Austin opponents. Jack O'Dell was given the enormous task to mind Austin forward, Kenrick Tyrrell, Jacko may be short but he plays tall and did a great job on Kenrick. The wind made conditions difficult and normally accurate Chris Willis even struggled to trouble the scoreboard. Austin seemed to handle the conditions slightly better. The second half started with the same intensity as the first half, but the Dallas seemed to take their foot of the gas and let Austin take control. Clay Roy, Greg Paine, and Ben Collins battled hard but Austin ended up winning by 4 goals. The scoreboard is not a true reflection on the game, with the contest being much closer than the indicated and Dallas can look forward to a great season ahead.

Dallas Magpies V Houston Lonestars Australian Football Club

The next game against Houston was an evenly contested match, with Houston getting the early ascendency, taking an early lead. The wind again was a factor and both sides struggled to adapt to the conditions. The turn overs was harsh for Dallas with many missed opportunities up forward missed. Finally, Zach Marschik found his feet and provided a target up forward, taking a few strong marks. Jay Duncan joined him adding an option that created problems for the Houston defenders. Clay Roy and Cory Colvin once again were running riot up field and Dylan Murray was like a gazelle, dodging Houston opponents and continuously running the ball into the forward line. First gamer, Jace Fredenburg was aggressive, constantly putting pressure on his opponents forcing Houston to make errors. At the end of the day Dallas ended up winners by 7 points.
